The CCSi ASTM D1329 (63mm) Specimen Cutting Die is a non-standard length built for labs whose Temperature Retraction (TR) test setup needs a longer strip than the three lengths ASTM D1329 specifies (25, 38, and 51 mm). This is a low-temperature viscoelasticity test — not a thermal-conductivity or insulation test — measuring how a stretched, frozen rubber specimen retracts as temperature climbs at a steady rate.
Because 63 mm falls outside the standard’s specified range, this die is typically ordered when a lab’s specimen rack or fixture geometry doesn’t accommodate any of the three standard lengths. The end tabs and general strip profile follow the same design as the standard dies; only the working length differs.
TR10 and TR70 remain the reference points that matter most, correlating with brittleness point and low-temperature compression set respectively, with the gap between them widening as crystallization increases in the compound.
Manufactured in-house from American tool steel, wire-EDM finished for resharpenable service. If your setup fits one of the three standard lengths instead, see the 25 mm, 38 mm, or 51 mm die.
