Product Description

The CCSi ASTM D624-A (With Nicker) Specimen Cutting Die is engineered to produce the crescent-shaped tear specimens required for ASTM D624, Die A, with the razor nicker built directly into the die so the crescent is cut and nicked in a single step. This die is manufactured to standard (inch) dimensions; metric (mm) sizing is available on request.

Manufactured entirely in-house in Akron, Ohio, each die begins with premium American-made tool steel before undergoing precision grinding, machining, heat treating, wire EDM, sharpening, and final dimensional certification. Wire EDM manufacturing produces perfectly vertical cutting walls, allowing the die to be resharpened multiple times without affecting specimen dimensions for exceptional long-term value.

Die A cuts a crescent-shaped specimen that is nicked prior to testing; the applied force runs along the major axis, perpendicular to the nick, to measure how readily the tear propagates. Because the nicker is integral, labs running frequent tear tests skip the separate nicking step and get more consistent nick depth from specimen to specimen.

If you’d prefer a version without the built-in nicker (for use with a separate nicking apparatus or hand razor), see the ASTM D624-A Specimen Cutting Die.

Every CCSi cutting die includes:

  • Laser-engraved model and serial number for traceability
  • Protective foam-lined carrying case
  • Standard configuration for clicker-style presses
  • Precision dimensional certification

Optional accessories include ISO-17025 Certification, Arbor Press Adapter, Mallet Handle, NAEF brackets and ejectors, and custom mounting solutions.
