Product Description

The CCSi ASTM D1460 Type B Specimen Cutting Die produces the Apparatus B specimen for measuring dimensional change in rubber during liquid immersion — a test that infers volume change from observed length and width shifts rather than calculating it directly from mass, which is what sets ASTM D1460 apart from the mass-based ASTM D471.

D1460 works with any immersion liquid but is especially suited to highly volatile ones that need to stay under pressure throughout the immersion period to avoid evaporating before the test finishes. The standard splits into two apparatus configurations: Apparatus A uses a thin 100 × 1.6 mm strip, while this die, for Apparatus B, cuts a larger 150 × 10–15 mm specimen — the choice between them comes down to which immersion vessel and procedure your lab has set up.

Built entirely in-house from American tool steel, wire-EDM finished for long-term resharpenable use. For the Apparatus A specimen geometry, see the ASTM D1460 Type A Specimen Cutting Die.
