ASTM D1460 Type A Specimen Cutting Die (CCSi-D1460-AN)

The CCSi ASTM D1460 Type A Specimen Cutting Die produces the Apparatus A specimen used to measure dimensional change in rubber during immersion, under ASTM D1460 — a test that approaches liquid-resistance testing from a different angle than the mass- and volume-based ASTM D471.

Rather than calculating volume change directly from mass measurements the way D471 does, D1460 infers volume change from observed dimensional shifts in the specimen — length, primarily. That distinction matters most with highly volatile immersion liquids, ones that need to stay under pressure throughout the exposure period to keep them from evaporating out of the test vessel before the immersion period is complete.

The standard defines two separate apparatus setups, each with its own specimen geometry. Apparatus A, which this die produces, cuts a thin strip at 100 × 1.6 mm. Apparatus B uses a longer, wider specimen at 150 × 10–15 mm, suited to different immersion vessel geometries or test durations.
