Shore® Operating Stand Model CV Shore® Durometers
The Shore® Model CV (Constant Velocity) operating stand improves the precision and accuracy of test determinations, in comparison to other Shore® non—automatic operating stands, by controlling rate of descent of the durometer, hence the force applied.
The most common causes for EV (equipment variation) or repeatability, and AV (appraiser variation) or reproducibility, in test determinations are inconsistencies in the introduction of the durometer to the test specimen.
The incorporation of a hydraulic dashpot, directly below the rack-and-pinion release mechanism, consistently controls the rate of descent, and therefore the force, of the durometer to the specimen. The unique ball-and-socket durometer mounting assembly also assures parallel application of the durometer to the specimen.
The Shore® Model CV constant velocity operating stand, by greatly reducing these variables, is the superior choice in Shore® non—automatic operating stands. It is may be used with virtually all models of Shore® durometers, and is adaptable to those of other manufacturer's.

The operating stand's primary function is to increase the reproducibility, repeatability, accuracy and precision, of the hardness determinations acquired with a durometer. The Models DR (Direct Read) and DRCL (Direct Read Constant Load) operating stands will accommodate most Shore® durometers.
The unique ball-and-socket durometer mounting assembly employed by the Models DR and DRCL operating stands assures that the durometer presser foot is parallel to the specimen table (platform, or stage), hence a parallel application of the presser foot to the test specimen.
Maintaining the perpendicularity of the durometer to the specimen is critical in achieving reliable durometer hardness test determinations. The introduction of any lateral force on the durometer's indentor has a known deleterious influence.
The operating stand is primarily intended for use on test specimens with parallel sides (flat). Irregularly shaped specimens may be tested if proper fixturing is provided to make the given surface parallel to the durometer presser foot.
The detachable mass on the model DRCL reduces variability in test determinations due to the application of inconsistent force generally experienced in manual application.
The DR and DRCL models allow the adjustment of the height between the specimen support table and durometer. This distance is now specified in ASTM D2240.

Shore® Operating Stand Model LR Shore® Durometers
The Model LR (Lever Loader) design converts the durometer into a portable tabletop instrument with the flexibility to test in all hardness ranges. Improvements in reproducibility and repeatability, compared to manual application, are achieved.
The test specimen is raised to the durometer, and simultaneously lifts the durometer and mass from the ‘at rest’ position and the reading is recorded.
The lesser force required to operate the stand, compared to direct manual application, reduces operator fatigue especially in a production environment.
The employment of the small detachable mass is required for Type A, B and O durometer testing. The larger detachable mass is necessary for Type C, D and DO durometer testing, both of which are included with the Model LR operating stand. No mass is employed when testing with Type OO durometers.
