Product Description

CCSi manufactures this high quality UltraLife Specimen Nicking Apparatus for precision nicking of Type B (ISO34 Method C) crescent test specimens, as described in ASTM D624 ‘Standard Test Method for Tear Strength of Conventional Vulcanized Rubber and Thermoplastic Elastomers’.

In order to perform the Type B (ISO34 Method C) Tear Tests with high levels of accuracy and precision, the propagation of the tear is a most critical element. This device virtually eliminates error greatly improving both repeatability and reproducibility.

The test specimens are securely held in place by a spring loaded handle, guide, and backing plate assembly. The frame and specimen receptacle are precisely machined to accommodate up to six specimens and designed to ease their precise positioning.

The guide for the cutting blade rests securely in the rigid frame. It is engineered to smoothly guide the cutting blade precisely through the specimen, creating a ‘nick’ at the prescribed depth of 0.50 ± 0.05 mm (0.020 ± 0.002 inch) with unparalleled repeatability. The preparation process is improved by producing statistically identical specimens.

The UltraLife ASTM D624 Nicking Apparatus is manufactured from stainless steel and Teflon coated aluminum. All parts are designed and CNC machined in house. The quality of design, materials and manufacture, as well as the ease of use, set this device apart from others of similar purpose.
