The CCSi ASTM D1149 B2 Specimen Cutting Die cuts the bent-loop specimen used in Method B2, one of four procedures under ASTM D1149 for evaluating ozone-cracking resistance in vulcanized rubber. Where Method B1 tests a straight strip under tension, B2 forms the specimen into a loop before exposure — a different strain geometry that reveals cracking behavior a flat, straight sample wouldn’t show.

The B2 die cuts a strip at 25 × 95 mm ± 0.3 mm, shorter than the B1 die’s 25 × 150 mm strip, since the loop configuration needs less material to bend into shape without over- or under-straining the sample. Once cut, the strip gets formed into its loop and mounted for dynamic ozone exposure inside a controlled chamber.

Manufactured entirely in-house from American tool steel, wire-EDM finished for resharpenable, dimensionally stable service. CCSi also supplies the OREC™ Ozone Chamber used to run this test, along with dies for the other D1149 procedures — B1 (straight), B3 (tapered), and B4 (triangular, molded rather than die-cut).
