The Model HT2131 is manufactured according to the specifications and requirements set forth in ASTM D4966 Standard Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Fabrics (Martindale Abrasion Tester Method), and conforms to ISO 12947-1 Textiles — Determination of the Abrasion Resistance of Fabrics by the Martindale method — Part 1: Martindale Abrasion Testing Apparatus, as well as ISO 5470-2 Rubber or Plastics Coated Fabrics – Determination of Abrasion Resistance – Part 2: Martindale Abrader.
The determination of abrasion resistance is measured by subjecting the specimen to a geometric motion against a standardized abrasive media (fabric) applied by a specific force. The results are evaluated by either of these methods:
- on a woven fabric when two or more yarns have broken;
- on a knitted fabric when a hole appears;
- a change in shade or appearance that is evaluated against the AATCC gray scale;
- the loss of mass, as a percentage or in milligrams.
