CCSi designs and manufactures high quality specimen cutting dies completely inhouse at our facility in Akron, OH. Our complete vertical integration allows CCSi to provide exceptional quality dies at competitive prices.

Our process starts with high, quality American made tool steel. We then grind, machine, harden, wire EDM, sharpen, and dimensionally certify the dies. The wire EDM manufacturing process creates perfectly vertical interior walls. This allows the die to be sharpened repeatedly without altering the dimensional characteristics of the sample and provides excellent long term value.

All CCSi dies come with the serial and model number laser engraved for easy identification. Also included is a rugged, foam lined carrying case for protection while the die is not in use.

Our standard dies have no adapters and are intended for use in a “clicker” style press.

CCSi manufactures these high quality Specimen Cutting Dies for determining the cracking resistance of vulcanized rubber exposed under dynamic strain conditions to a chamber atmosphere containing ozone at a fixed partial pressure, as described in D1149 ‘Standard Test Methods for Rubber Deterioration—Cracking in an Ozone Controlled Environment’. The effects of sun or ultraviolet light are excluded.

ASTM D1149 Method A describes two procedures, Method A1 (tensile elongation test) and Method A2 (belt flex test).

The method A1 die is 10 x 127 ± 0.03 mm (0.40 x 5.0 ± 0.01 in.). Please note: the test method specifies a length of 100mm (3.98 in.), however this does not leave an adequate amount of material for mounting to the stretching apparatus.

These determine, in a comparative sense, the degree of ozone resistance of a material under the accelerated conditions of the tests.

CCSi provides the OREC™ Ozone Chamber, which is suitable for performing the Dynamic Ozone Test, as well as molds and cutting dies used in other ozone test procedures.
